ゆりこ ゆこ よしかわ 吉川由利子

Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa is an international award-winning Japanese artist whose works have been exhibited in Paris (France), Monaco, Toledo (Spain), and Quebec (Canada). Brand Statement

Art is a single drop falling into still water.
Quietly, yet surely, it sends ripples across the surface.
Sometimes the drop is small. Sometimes it is large.
But every drop has the power to move what was still.

Through my work, I wish to speak to one truth:
the importance of living fully in this moment —
as time shifts, second by second, never to return.
It is precisely because it passes that this moment is beautiful.

— Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa

YURIKO YUCO YOSHIKAWA® is a Japanese contemporary art brand that embodies refined minimalism and quiet intensity.

At its core lies the philosophy of "Wa" — a uniquely Japanese sense of harmony cultivated through centuries of cultural refinement and adaptation.

Each creation is not merely an object, but a presence.
An exploration of space, absence, and emotional resonance.

The works are defined by:
restrained yet deliberate forms,
a subtle tension between fragility and strength,
and a quiet dialogue between material, light, and the viewer.

In a world driven by excess, YURIKO YUCO YOSHIKAWA® pursues the opposite.
A distilled aesthetic that invites contemplation rather than consumption.

This is not art that demands attention.
It is art that transforms perception.

Positioned within the international luxury art sphere, the brand speaks to collectors who seek rarity, depth, and timeless cultural intelligence.

YURIKO YUCO YOSHIKAWA® does not follow trends.
It defines a state of being.

A true Renaissance Artist — working across Japanese painting, Western painting, ink, copperplate engraving, Shibori dyeing, botanical dyeing, Washi art, and Tsumami Zaiku — each at exhibition and publication level.

Artist Profile — Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa

Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa is a Japanese artist whose work has been invited to international exhibitions and publications across France, Spain, Monaco, Italy, and Canada — including two presentations at Galerie Linda Farrell, Paris, the VII Bienal de Art Maison Japón en Toledo, the 16ème Rencontre Artistique Monaco-Japon (A.I.A.P.-UNESCO), the Italian publication Arte giapponese (Collana Artistica, Milan, 2026), and the Exposition amitié Japon Québec 2026.

A VIP Artist Member of the Art Maison Selecting Committee (A.M.S.C.), an international arts organisation spanning France, Japan, and Spain.

An avant-garde artist who transcends boundaries — working across acrylic, ink, watercolor, dyeing, botanical dyeing, and pen on a wide range of surfaces including fabric, paper, washi, and canvas — in relentless pursuit of new forms of expression beyond established conventions.

Her practice spans Western painting, Japanese painting, ink painting, copperplate engraving, dyeing, botanical dyeing, and ceramics, crossing genres with remarkable breadth.

Her copper etching works — including the celebrated Immersed in Vermilion — explore the luminous depth of vermilion art, a pigment with deep roots in Japanese ceremonial tradition. As a Japanese collage artist, she layers washi paper, ink, and mixed media to create works that exist at the intersection of tradition and contemporary expression.

Several of her ink works are created on Mino Washi — a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage paper with over 1,300 years of history, prized for the extraordinary beauty of its natural kozo fibers. Learn more about Mino Washi →

For many years as a registered nurse, she stood at the threshold between life and death — witnessing pain, dignity, grief, and quiet moments of grace. Every experience shaped the way she sees the world, and that vision lives at the heart of every work she creates today.

Her research paper, "Caregiver Burden and Related Factors Among Family Members Caring for Elderly Ostomy Patients," published in Volume 32, Issue 3 of the Japan Ostomy and Continence Rehabilitation Society's journal, was recognized as the Most Outstanding Paper of the Year for 2016 — a reflection of her deep commitment to understanding human suffering with both rigor and compassion.

Though she has set down her nurse's uniform, that same gaze remains — alive in every stroke of ink, every fold of dyed fabric, every material she touches, and every single moment of creation, whatever form it takes.

Based in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Inquiries in English and Spanish are welcome.

Art Maison International Vol.30 (March 2026)

Art Maison International Vol.30 — Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa feature page

"Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa introduces us to the world of dyeing, which we rarely have the opportunity to deepen our knowledge. This art form, reflecting Japan's history and culture as a traditional expression, has recently regained attention. Japanese dyeing has evolved in diverse ways over time, making it an exceptionally rich and varied art. 'Light' was exhibited at the 10th Anniversary Salon de l'Art Japonais 2025 held at the Galerie Linda Farrell in Paris. This artist created a composition where the rainbow-like effect produced by layering multiple colors and accidental smudges harmonize beautifully. The other piece, 'A World of Blue and Green,' is an umbrella featuring a beautiful contrast of two colors. When creating dyed works, one must envision the finished form in their mind the moment the cloth is dyed. With these two pieces, she has demonstrated both outstanding imagination and masterful dyeing techniques."

— Alain Bazard, Art Maison International Vol.30

"A vibrant and richly coloured work. It expresses not only light itself, but the joy of everything illuminated by that light."

— Alfonso González-Carrero, President, A.M.S.C. Spain Headquarters

Arte giapponese: Un'analisi da un punto di vista estetico — Collana Artistica (Italy, March 2026)

Arte giapponese — Collana Artistica, Pasquale Di Matteo, 2026

Attestato di Partecipazione — Pasquale Di Matteo

"Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa is an atypical figure in the contemporary Japanese art scene — one in which the scientific discipline of nursing merges with a refined and meditative aesthetic sensibility. Her training, first as a nurse and specialist in geriatric care, then as a refined aesthetic researcher, does not constitute a mere biographical backdrop, but rather the very point from which her artistic analysis departs. She interprets reality through the clinical lens — attentive to the surface and structure of bodies — and the poetic one, capable of going beyond what is visible to grasp its essence. Her artistic vision is an act of participatory observation, in which the world is scrutinised with the precision of the scientist and rendered with the sensibility of the poet."

"In every work, her personality emerges as a methodological rigour and a profound empathy — almost therapeutic — towards colour. The style of Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa is characterised by a hybrid approach that combines traditional techniques with unusual supports. In the work Vertice, the use of markers on fabric recalls on one hand the ancient art of Japanese dyeing, and on the other transforms it into a contemporary gesture, where the mark becomes the trace of an inner journey. In Forma, the watercolour on wallpaper destabilises conventions: the support, normally associated with domestic decoration and the ephemeral, is elevated to a field of chromatic and spatial exploration. Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa performs a semantic transposition, whereby that which is destined to cover and conceal — like wallpaper or a wound dressing — becomes instead a place of revelation."

"The artist attributes to her creations a value of silent testimony. The emotions she intends to convey are those of contemplation, the will to persevere, and a healthy sense of wonder in the face of life's mystery. The relationship between art and emotion is symbiotic: the artwork becomes the place where emotion is processed, as in a process of symbolic healing. The artist's passion for detail and lucid observation — a legacy of her clinical approach — translates into a meditative artistic practice, where every mark is considered and every colour is charged with intention. There is no room for the impulsive gesture. On the contrary, there is a slow, patient sedimentation of experience and meaning. Yuriko Yuco Yoshikawa invites us to consider colour as a form of aesthetic care — a practice that, through beauty and the depth of the messages conveyed, can heal the fractures between the visible and the invisible, between body and spirit, between science and poetry."

A Collector's Voice

"I received one of Yuriko's Shibori-dyed indigo parasols as a gift. As a former journalist, I have seen many things — but this stopped me."

The dyeing is extraordinary. The resist patterns shift with the light, as if the fabric is alive. More than the technique, what struck me was the emotional depth. This artist has lived alongside human experience, and it shows in every fold of the cloth.

There is only one of each work. If you are considering it — don't wait."

— Former Journalist, Japan

Hunting cap: kimono tsumugi fabric · Corsage: remade from Shibori-dyed kimono fabric · Top: hand-dyed by the artist · Trousers: kimono tsumugi fabric · Ceramic pendant: handcrafted by the artist

"Yuriko handcrafted a hunting cap for me using kimono tsumugi fabric — a textile woven with a history and warmth that cannot be replicated by machine."

From the moment I put it on, I knew it was something different. The weight, the texture, the quiet elegance of the weave — it feels like wearing a piece of living culture. I reach for it every time I go out.

This is not an accessory. It is a work of art you can wear."
